Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens is a premier botanical garden destination in Columbus, Ohio. Its mission is to connect people to nature and create life-enhancing experiences, guided by a vision of a world that recognizes nature as essential to the human experience.

For its Kids’ Corner, the Conservatory wanted to introduce an activity that could engage visiting children and their families without requiring large amounts of equipment or constant attention from staff.

It needed to be fun, intuitive, and suitable for independent play—while also creating opportunities for adults and children to participate together.

ActiveFloor is switched on every day from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Visitors can choose from a carefully selected collection of games created specifically for the Kids’ Corner.

Using MyFloor, the Conservatory has been able to choose suitable game templates and add its own content through a process Casey describes as both seamless and intuitive.

“MyFloor is awesome, and the whole process of choosing games and creating our own content has been seamless and intuitive. I couldn’t be happier!”

The system has also delivered the day-to-day reliability the Conservatory needed. Despite being used continuously by visitors, it requires very little staff attention.

“The equipment was easy to install and has been a workhorse,” Casey explains. “We have the unit on every day, and we’ve had no problems with connectivity or functionality.”

Where Children, Parents, and Grandparents Play Together

One of the most meaningful outcomes has been seeing ActiveFloor bring different generations together.

Children can begin playing without help from an adult, but the experience becomes even more valuable when parents and grandparents join them. Rather than simply watching from the side, adults step onto the floor, take off their shoes, and become part of the activity.

“My favorite thing to see is when a grandparent or parent is in there playing with their kids.”

Sometimes several families gather around ActiveFloor at once. They play, share, encourage one another, and solve challenges together—turning a visit to the Kids’ Corner into a shared social experience.

Through this kind of play, children are not only moving and having fun. They are also practicing teamwork, communication, sharing, and mutual encouragement.

For Franklin Park Conservatory, ActiveFloor has added a new dimension to the Kids’ Corner while helping the space feel more closely connected to the rest of the visitor experience.

It delivers the engagement Casey hoped for without adding another activity that demands constant maintenance from staff. Instead, it simply keeps working—welcoming new children and families throughout the day.

“It has leveled up our Kids’ Corner space, brought us into the 21st century, and we are just getting started!”

The Conservatory plans to continue developing games for visitors of different ages, using ActiveFloor to inspire movement, wonder, and creativity for years to come.
