At Texas City Independent School District (ISD), the mission is clear: to help students reach their full potential and thrive in the path they choose. Technology plays a vital role in that mission, and with the implementation of ActiveFloor, they’ve taken a major step toward more movement, play, and active learning during the school day.

Problem
At Texas City Independent School District (ISD), the mission is clear: to help students reach their full potential and thrive on the path they choose. But to make that happen, the schools needed learning environments that could engage students in a more active, hands-on way. Traditional teaching methods and stationary classroom setups made it difficult to incorporate enough movement into the school day, impacting both student motivation and learning outcomes.
Goal
Texas City ISD wanted to implement technology that could bring more play, movement, and interactivity into the school day—across subjects and grade levels. The goal was to create learning environments where students could learn through physical activity and collaboration, and where teachers could easily access and use relevant instructional materials.
“We purchased ActiveFloor after seeing a demonstration at the TCEA conference. We knew right away that the kids would love it,” says Alicia Jordal, Technology Implementation Coordinator at Texas City ISD.

Today, ActiveFloor is an integrated part of instruction across Texas City ISD and is used by classroom teachers, librarians, and physical education teachers alike. The units are reserved through a check-out system and are incorporated into everything from movement breaks to academic games in the classroom. In particular, the transformation of the school library into an active movement lab has made a significant impact.
“Students love having the chance to get up and move. The games get them thinking, collaborating, and having fun—and they completely forget that they’re learning,” Alicia says with a smile.
With access to ActiveFloor’s MyFloor library, Alicia and her colleagues can easily find, customize, and create games that align with their instructional goals. She personally curates relevant games and links them to the school’s curriculum plan, making it easy for teachers to quickly find the content they need.
“I gather games and add them to our ‘Year at a Glance’ document so teachers can quickly access engaging, interactive learning activities that align with their learning objectives,” she explains.
ActiveFloor has not only brought more joy and activity into daily instruction—it has also transformed the school’s shared spaces into vibrant learning environments centered around play, learning, and community.
“It’s been a fantastic addition to our schools, and I highly recommend it—especially for librarians and physical education teachers,” Alicia concludes, while also noting opportunities for further development, such as expanded search features and stronger alignment with learning standards.
