Good news to maths teachers:
Jesper Albinus loves to turn things on their head and think out of the box – especially at his job as a maths teacher at Gentofte youth school and as a publisher of creative maths teaching material. Now Jesper’s creative way of teaching maths will become a part of Active Floor’s interactive learning content.
From the beginning, Active Floor has made sure to integrate the possibility of creating your own teaching content. This is a possibility that provides the teachers with freedom to adapt their teaching to the class, subject and theme. However, we know that for teachers, the limited preparation time can be a challenge. Therefore, Active Floor wishes to cooperate with teachers in creating learning content that match up with skill and learning targets– and which at the same time is ready and easy to use.
In order to do this, Active Floor contacted Jesper Albinus via a joint work acquittance from the publishing house Vektor where Jesper has published maths pamphlets/books, (card) games and activity mats since the fall of 2015.
From hating maths to teaching it
Jesper’s teaching has a wide span as he has experience with teaching both young students in their early years of schooling, and also students in high school. In addition to this, Jesper has worked with ALL kinds of students – all the way from addicts, students with a diagnosis, autists, brain damaged people, physically handicapped people, people with mental disabilities, dyslexic people, people suffering from dyscalculia, and many more. This level of experience and professionalism is something that Active Floor is extremely pleased to be able to utilize.
“I HATED maths when I went to public school – it was actually the reason why I wanted to become a teacher. I was convinced that I, without a doubt, could make teaching better and not nearly as boring,” says Jesper and continues:
“I love a different kind of maths. I don’t think that maths always has to be traditional and ‘boring’. Maths can be about anything: cars, horses and animals – in the end, the equation is the same,” says Jesper.
The reason why Jesper agreed to cooperate with Active Floor is owed to the possibility of his once more being able to turn maths on its head: collaborating with Active Floor, Jesper will continue to create learning tools which can easily act as a supplement to traditional teaching.

“The great thing about Active Floor is that everybody gets a chance to show that they are good at something. Some are good at solving equations, others have a great memory, and everyone (especially boys) loves to compete. Some students have to be pushed a bit which is also a really good and educational challenge!”

Maths for all the different levels
Jesper is primarily going to create Active Floor’s maths learning content for students of all ages: from the early years of schooling to high school.
“Actually, you can use the same learning content in Active Floor numerous times across the various games. For example, you can use it in Memory where you have the time to practice and discuss the results, and then reuse it in Danger in the Jungle where the students have to think fast and get to compete with each other.”
You can find Jesper Albinus’ game content in the next update of Active Floor’s software which will be released after the summer break – and it is, of course, free of charge. Are we excited to share this learning content with our Active Floor users? You bet!
The first 26 games which will be published are meant for students who are finishing secondary school. These games are focussed on the work with and practising of solving mathematical problems at different levels – they are all based on the topics which are covered in the final exam in maths.
